Abstract

The present study deals with foraminiferal ‘ostratigraphy and its paleoenvironmental erpretations for Middle to Late Paleocene carbonate sequence of Lockhart Limestone in Kotal section of orth Pakistan. The foraminiferal assemblages provided a good database for biostratigraphic subdivision and entification of two planktonic biozones. Planktonic iozones recorded from study area include: Middle aJeocene Morozovella angulata Zone and Late aleocene Planorotalites pseudomenardii Zone. Overlapping last occurrence of the Morozovella elascoensis with the last occurrence of Planorotalites pseudomenardii has been observed. This might be due o the long range of Planorotalites pseudomenardii on is continent as recorded in literature. Comparisons of ~ ese biozones with standard planktonic zonations aye been presented. Many benthonic larger and smaller foraminifers of Middle-Late Paleocene interval aye been recorded. Inner neritic to middle neritic shelf environments of eposition for Lockhart Limestone in Kotal pass section of north Pakistan has been interpreted based on planktonic I benthonic (P/B) ratio, the total oraminiferal abundance and their diversification I reservation.
